There have been complaints...

Grey.

There have been complaints.... well minor grumblings anyway, that I am being cruel posting pictures of floaty summer gardens when it is December and bleak and cold. So in the interests of balance, here are a few snaps taken this morning to reflect what it is really like outside.

Grisly.

And...
Bare.

That's more like it: we like grim reality from our blogs. None of this beastly looking forward to the Spring nonsense.
Let's indulge our inner Puritans and wallow in chilblained misery for the next few months.

While I love these photos, very ah....realistic. What is wrong with posting beautiful, misleading, floaty, summer gardens. Isn't that what we all see outside of our windows.

Love whatever you choose to post, no complaints here.

Love this ... as it captures the very nature of our gardens.
How could we have extravagant beauty without a quiet spell....
The new year approaches,

I love your "Bare" photo. The berries stand out amidst the stark background. I visited England in March, and found it so beautiful even though many of the plants had not started to bud out yet.

PS. Keep posting your pictures from summer...they brighten our winter days.

I was thinking your lovely photos wouldn't be nearly bleak enough for James!

Takes out note book...

...must take more pics of berrys for Tatyana and Noelle...work harder on the chillblaned misery for JRo and The Hat...keep it real for Alice...throw in a few summery flowers for Muddy and ask Kiki what she is on and if I could have some too please?

Oh dear, James, and I was going to post some spring photos shortly. Well, if you must have grim reality, in flower in my garden at the moment are roses, oriental poppies, eschscholzia, tagetes, and nasturtiums - shall I find some pics of those instead?

I agree with Kiki, RO - those are lovely photos, even if they are grey.

Not so much complaints, more like wistful longing for dry sunny days!! I normally love autumn, but this one has been so wet and miserable! I love your pictures, though described as grey, grisly and bare, they are still beautiful!

Your bare pictures have a stately beauty. I especially like the seed center of the flower. There is beauty in a winter scene, although I have no objections to seeing summer scenes!!

Janie, for this post I used a Cannon Digital SLR EOS 500D with a 105mm f/2.8 macro lens.
